The China TEFL/TESOL Fake Documents Scam

Dear readers,

Well, this has turned out to be quite the eventful week! :)

The week began with an avalanche of negative online press, which we soon discovered was the work of one of our competitors: Ian Leahy from ESLinsider.

He has since decided to ramp up his spreading of misinformation about TEFL Online Pro, and this can clearly be seen if you Google 'TEFL Online Pro Reviews'.

Something that we were completely surprised about, and something that we just didn't see coming, was the news this week that Ian Leahy is a wanted man in China.

The story was first published on a China scams website:

https://chinascampatrol.wordpress.com/2016/02/11/warning-fake-diplomas-to-get-3000-china-foreign-esl-tefl-teachers-arrested-great-job-eslinsider/

It was then published as a blacklisted warning on Trusted TEFL Reviews:

https://trustedteflreviews.com/2020/07/29/tefl-tesol-in-japan-scam/

The general gist of the story, is that Ian Leahy (owner of ESLinsider.com) has been recommending to those of his customers without college diplomas that they buy fake college diplomas on the blackmarket in order to qualify to be able to teach English in China.

The Chinese authorities caught on to this scam when a North American female teacher was arrested for submitting a fake college diploma to her school. During her arrest, she spilled the beans and showed them the communication from Ian Leahy, where he specifically states that this is what he recommends for teachers without a formal college qualification.

One North American teacher (whom we know of) has been jailed for 2.5 years, in China, for listening to Ian Leahy's advice which he gave to him while he was taking the ESLinsider Online TEFL/TESOL certification course.

A snippet from the article:

‘After some deliberation we have decided to warn all the foreigners now teaching in China that if you sent an email to eslinsider.com or even visited their website more than once over the last 6 months, you will soon be investigated by the Chinese PSB as we recently found out in an unexpected interview we obtained with a veteran Captain who has worked more than 8 years with the PSB in a Tier 1 city of China.’

And what has Ian's response been?

Has he issued a public apology?

Nope. He has continued to spend his week writing trash online about TEFL Online Pro.

If you are considering whether to take the TEKA Online TEFL/TESOL certification course through the ESLinsider program, we recommend proceeding with extreme caution.

Thank you for reading this China TEFL/TESOL Fake Documents Scam article.

Kind regards,

Paul Murphy
